We welcome coaches at every level — from Kiwi Hoops and school competitions to representative teams.

Are you passionate about basketball and keen to give back? South Canterbury Basketball welcomes coaches at every level — from Kiwi Hoops and school competitions to representative teams. Whether you’re experienced or just starting out, we provide training, CoachMate resources, and support to help you grow as a coach.

Club & programme coaches

Ideal for parents, teachers, and community volunteers. Flexible commitment, with training and CoachMate session plans provided.

Representative coaches

Representative coaches commit to coaching 1–2 times per week throughout the season and attending all tournaments (typically 3–4 per season, 1–4 days each). Practice days are Sunday afternoons (all season) and Tuesday afternoons (pre-national qualification).

  • U16 & U18 season: mid-February to mid-July
  • U14 season: mid-July to mid-October
  • Pre-season and qualification tournaments: locations vary across the South Island
  • National tournaments (if qualified): locations vary across New Zealand

Coaching appointments are recommended to the SCBA Board by the General Manager, final appointments are made by the Board. Successful applicants acknowledge they will have to complete a criminal history check to the satisfaction of the board as per SCBA Child Protection Policy.

All coaches working with junior players complete police vetting under our Child Protection Policy. We’ll be in touch once we’ve reviewed your application.
