What basketball programmes does South Canterbury Basketball offer?

South Canterbury Basketball (SCBA) runs five main programmes in Timaru and across the region: Holiday Programmes, BNZ Kiwi Hoops, 2degrees Girls Got Game, Hoops for All, and Representative Basketball. Together they cover school-aged beginners through to elite rep players. Most players start with Kiwi Hoops or holiday programmes, join competitions when ready, and can trial for rep teams. Explore each programme via the tiles above or visit the dedicated pages for full details.

SCBA programmes are designed for a wide range of ages and stages:

  • BNZ Kiwi Hoops — primary and intermediate (typically Years 1–8)
  • Holiday Programmes — all school-aged players
  • 2degrees Girls Got Game — girls of all ages; no experience needed
  • Hoops for All — all ages; adapted for physical and intellectual disabilities
  • Representative Basketball — U14, U16, U18, and senior men’s and women’s teams

If you’re unsure which programme fits, contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

A typical SCBA player pathway looks like this:

  1. Start — Kiwi Hoops or Holiday Programmes (learn fundamentals, build confidence)

  2. PlayPrimary, intermediate, or secondary competitions (apply skills in games)

  3. Develop — Continued programmes and club play (sharpen technique and teamwork)

  4. Compete — Representative trials (U14, U16, U18, senior)

Not every player needs to follow every step — SCBA offers social and recreational options at every stage.
